Reducing Textile Microplastics
FINDINGS FROM AN INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PROJECT
Textiles made of synthetic fibres such as polyester can emit tiny fragments during production and washing. This also affects sports textiles - from running shirts to outdoor jackets. The partners in the TextileMission research project set themselves the task of better understanding this environmental impact and helping to minimise it. After more than three and a half years of intensive, interdisciplinary research, we are pleased to present the central results of the research activities as well as promising approaches to reducing this environmental problem in our final publication. Contents include:
Causes of microplastics discharge during household washing
Retention of textile microplastics in sewage treatment plants
Estimation of fibre discharge from sportswear in Germany
Sustainability aspects of alternative fibre materials
Textile technology research approaches
